For anyone who is not a veteran parent of ONStage/3rd Stage, please watch this Informational Video BEFORE signing up to audition to determine if this class is the right fit for your child and to understand the commitment expectations and goals of the class. It also reviews what students can expect in the audition, as well as what tech week entails and performance expectations.

Please ignore the reference to “3rd Stage” – former name for this class - the rest of the information still applies.

You must click the link above to sign up online to receive an audition spot.
It is imperative to check with leaders of other extra-curricular activities and in-school groups to make sure that they can share possible conflicts with you before the audition and are also aware of the dates and times of this commitment (Tech Week Dec 14-19 and Performances Dec 20 & 21).
For the audition, the students will be guided through acting exercises that will include following directions, understanding stage areas, demonstrating vocal projection, and showing physical choices for characterization. No reading is involved for this audition. This less stressful way of auditioning gives the director a better understanding of how actors work together and take direction. Actors who demonstrate an appropriate skill level will then be invited to take the class as a pre-cast participant. All auditionees also receive a written assessment which can be used to focus efforts at improvement through other classes (for reference, this is not typically provided at most auditions).
Cast list will be announced by Sun, August 25th and students who are NOT cast will still be able to enroll in another class (as available) with a $25 discount (code will be sent with the assessment).

Production: ONStage is an opportunity for experienced younger actors to realize the hard work that goes into being “up there.” Stories are adapted for a fully produced weekend run. The age range allows elementary aged students to tackle character roles while younger actors create an ensemble experience. Students embark on the rehearsal process creating characters and making acting choices guided by the director, Traysie Amick and the assistant directors, Hailie Gold and Dru Reel. In addition, they will see young artists (Mentors/Tech Crew) take on backstage and production roles, discover techniques and activities that are useful during “down-time” at rehearsal, and build a group of kindred partners with one objective: tell a great story!
Parents also can see how a child handles a heavier schedule and at-home workload. They become familiar with new theatre jargon and get an inside look at the demands and expectations of “tech rehearsals.” Everybody learns!
We ask that students have completed at least 3 semesters of theatre instruction. At least one of these needs to be Exploration or Process Acting from SCCT. Please understand that PRODUCTION level classes are NOT appropriate for everyone--they require…
- CONSISTENT class attendance – tardiness/absenteeism will not be tolerated except in the event of contagious sickness, or another specific emergency and you must contact the teacher ASAP
- Outside of class memorization and homework assignments
- Focus, concentration in class and appropriate class behavior
- Teamwork, collaboration, and support of other students
- Commitment to planned performances
- Students are expected to bring a notebook and pencil to every class
Students who are cast will need to attend class consistently—absences and tardies are strongly discouraged as it impacts the whole class! It is imperative to check with leaders of other extra-curricular activities and in-school groups to make sure that they can share possible conflicts with you before the audition and are also aware of the dates and times of this commitment.

Maybe you have an interest in behind the scenes and learning more about the process of putting a show together? Then you might be interested in… Mentors/Tech Crew for Grades 5-12 – please contact Traysie Amick traysie@scchildrenstheatre.org BEFORE August 21 (when the auditions happen) if you are interested in assisting the ONStage class each week all the way through the performances (Dec 20 & 21). Mentors come 30 minutes prior to the actual class time (so 4:15 ish on Wed) to help prepare material for the class start at 4:45pm. You will act as a mentor to the younger students during the rehearsal process (help with writing down blocking, developing character, rehearsing lines, etc) and become the full run crew for the tech rehearsals and performances. There is no cost for this learning experience, but YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE TO COMMIT TO THE WHOLE SEMESTER with minimal expected absences (none allowed during tech/performances).
Registration opens – AFTER Auditions & Casting – Tuition is $280 for the semester - sorry no discount.
