Homework & Memorization Required

Take your audition game to the next level!  Prepare a 1-minute monologue from a produced play, fully memorized before our first class (Jan 9) and develop ways to self-critique and offer helpful critique to your peers.  Preparing creative choices alone that adequately translate into an audition setting is one of the most difficult hurdles actors must overcome. Students at this level should be able to find and develop audition material on their own and the only way for this class to be effective, is for them to come to the first class fully ready to audition.

Please submit your monologue for approval any time BEFORE Dec 21st—we want to make sure the material you plan to memorize and work on is actually a good choice. betsy@scchildrenstheatre.org

We will begin the first day with a mock audition.  Students will perform their pieces as though they are actually auditioning.  Students will take notes on the initial performances and write feedback for themselves. Then, we will discuss various tactics for sharing our insights.

From there, we will work these pieces through a variety of activities that will hone our approach and narrow our choices.  We will cultivate a list of considerations when self-directing a piece.  Develop methods of solo rehearsal leading up to an audition.

In addition, we will discuss what directors look for in potential talent and touch on ways to organize information to place achievements in the best light.  Preparation is the antidote for anxiety!   These skills will not only bolster confidence for the next audition, but also allow students to participate in their other performing arts classes in a more meaningful way.

In the last class, we will repeat the Mock Audition process with some actual SCCT directors to gain their professional feedback.

**We DO meet when Greenville County Schools are off for Teacher Workdays or Holidays, and MAY meet when schools cancel due to weather if the roads are safe in the afternoon.**

If needed—we will add a class the week of Feb 12-16 to make up a class lost due to weather.
