Description
SUNDAYS | January 24-April 25 | 5:00-6:15 PM | Betsy Bisson | FREE
SCCT provides free acting workshops for adults—college-age and up.
It's a chance for beginners to seasoned actors to get together to learn more about acting, auditioning, the rehearsal process, monologue preparation and whatever the student has questions about. Betsy Bisson is the Co-Artistic and Education Director at SCCT and has 30+ years of experience teaching acting.
The first three classes new students (limited to 12) must attend in order to be assigned material to work on for the rest of the semester (past students are welcome to come to these classes too). The bulk of the formal teaching occurs in the beginning of the semester, later classes mainly consist of rehearsing material and performing for class for critique. You are also welcome to just come and listen to lecture or participate in game/exercises and not perform, but the only way to learn to act is to actually go through the process (selecting material, doing the background character work, experimenting with physical and vocal characteristics, memorizing, developing intentions/obstacles, refining performance technique, receiving critiques, etc.). Due to the trust built through the ensemble exercises and classes at the beginning of the semester, it is difficult to admit new students mid-semester. Please wait for the next semester (Fall or Spring) to enroll.
We DO have an informal performance at the end of the semester (voluntary participation—you can elect not to perform), and friends and family are welcome to attend.
(If you attended a previous semester and performed in the sharing, you are considered a Returning Student. You are welcome to attend the first 3 classes for new students as a review, but it is not required. Please email betsy@scchildrenstheatre.org, if you are planning to attend this semester, so she knows to expect you and can start finding material for you.)
All students required to wear face masks in the building.
